Discerning Ordained Vocations in the Diocese of Atlanta
The Rev. Canon Alicia Schuster Weltner, Canon for Congregational Development & Ministry, directs the programs for exploring ordained vocations to the priesthood and diaconate in the Diocese of Atlanta, in cooperation with the Bishop and the Commission on Ministry.
The call to ministry originates in the context of a parish or campus community. It is expected that those interested in the Diocesan sponsored discernment process will have engaged in significant ministry and conversation in their communities of worship. Those considering a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to engage in conversation with their parish rectors or campus chaplains,and to study the information linked under updates for informational purposes. Interviews with Canon Weltner of those who are considering applying are generally held in the two month period before applications are accepted. Application deadlines for each process are announced to all rectors in advance.

The Vocational Discernment Program for those considering a call to the priesthood has finished accepting nominees for the 2008 year. At this time, another class is planned for January of 2009. (For informational purposes only, the application materials used for 2008 may be viewed here).
A new discernment program is planned for the vocational diaconate in 2008. A calendar and details will be posted on this page once they are finalized.
